Alan is a Principal Lecturer in Diagnostic Radiography and a University Teaching Fellow. Alan qualified in 1988 as a Diagnostic Radiographer and worked within the NHS until 2001. His specialised clinical expertise included Nuclear Medicine and CT Scanning. During this time Alan undertook postgraduate education, qualifying in Radionuclide Imaging (Nuclear Medicine) in 1990 and achieving an MSc in Pharmacological and Clinical Sciences in 1998. He has also gained a PgC in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and achieved a grade A in an “online education and training” course studied at the Institute of Education in London.
Since moving into education in 2001, Alan has developed his interests in motivating students to engage in active learning. From the introduction of the university's MLE "StudyNet" Alan has worked to investigate methods of integrating it into teaching and learning, and to explore new ways of collaborative learning, to create a blended learning environment. He was made a University Teaching Fellow in November 2005 and is currently continuing his development and evaluation of collaborative learning in his role as a teacher for the Blended Learning Unit.
