Appreciative inquiry :: Blog :: Earn money from home with Emerge!

May 23, 2008

Does this sound like you?

 - You are a member of the Emerge community
 - You are either not part of a funded Emerge project and/or have some flexible time to spare between mid June 2008 and March 2009.
 - You enjoy observing and participating in the Emerge online and offline events
 - You secretly harbour investigative journalistic ambitions
 - You want to earn extra cash

We are looking for data collectors ('gold diggers') to gather snippets and uncover stories of experiences and achievements within the Emerge community and their funded projects. These may be collected from monitoring blogs, talking to, phoning or Skype-ing team members of Emerge projects, as well as trawling around the Emerge online and face to face events taking place from June 2008 to March 2009.

The focus is on gathering examples of shared practice related to user engagement and related aspects in the projects plus writing these up for prompt feedback to the community. Briefing and guidelines will be provided by team members of the Emerge Appreciative Inquiry group.
In return for ten (10) days work, including ‘digging’ and writing up, you will receive £400 a day.

APPLICATIONS CLOSE: Friday 6 June

TO APPLY: Email a one page (A4) expression of interest to Patsy Clarke at p.clarke@brookes.ac.uk

Include:
- What attracted you to this advert and why you want to be involved
- What skills you bring to this project

Short listing will finalised on 9 June and telephone interviews of those short listed will take place on Wednesday 11 June.

Successful gold diggers will be notified on Friday 13 June.

  1. Hi Patsy,

can you explain this a bit more please?  Are you asking people to collect data that will be used for research in which they will play no part in the analysis or writing up?

  2. On the contrary, Frances. The gold-diggers are part of an expansion of the Appreciative Inquiry research process approach which aims to:
    • be iterative and ongoing
    • inform the community tasks and operations
    • be a tool for positive change
    • be a shared, collective inquiry
    • involve multiple data collection methods and times.

The AI evaluation conducts regular data collection using a variety of methods including participant observation, reporting on these promptly and making summaries of the results and recommendations available to all community members.  The outputs and stories collected to date are available to all Emerge community members on the Emerge Appreciative Inquiry site at:http://vle.jiscemerge.org.uk/course/view.php?id=4

    Hope this clarifies.
