Mobile Ts :: Blog :: Adding a Mobile Dimension to Teaching and Learning Workshop

July 27, 2007

Emerge colleagues are invited to join the 5th IAS Mobile Teaching and Learning workshop at the University of Bristol on the 12th September. See http://www.bris.ac.uk/education/research/networks/mobile/

This will focus on issues of assessing and recording learning with handhelds and moble phones. Elizabeth Hartnell-Young from Learning Sciences Research Institute at Nottingham University<http://www.lsri.nottingham.ac.uk/ehy/> will present her work on mobile portfolios and lifelong learning and I am hoping that other colleagues will be able to contribute - We plan to look at the work of the e-Scape project using PDAs to record progress in D&T coursework and I'm hoping to be able to organise a demonstration of Synchroneyes (<http://www.teem.org.uk/2172/>) which is clearly enabling teachers to monitor and assess learning in a class with PDAs in a way that has had significant positive impact on their comfort levels with managing mobile learning.

This will be at Royal Fort House from 9:30 to 1:30 with lunch. It will be followed by an optional afternoon session reflecting on the workshop series and generating ideas for a research programme. It is difficult to get hold of people at the moment to finalise the programme but Mary is ever ready to take bookings in advance. Email Mary.Takahama@bris.ac.uk
