Today I finally gathered some time to listen to the lastest Absolutely Intercultual Podcast show.
I kept telling I had to activate the itunes feed so I wouldn’t miss it, but somehow I forgot. Still need to do that.
Today I downloaded on to my iPod and listen to several of the shows I hadn’t listened to yet.
I became specially motivated by Anne’s podcast about the Achill experience. I can imagine how lucky those students must have felt for having been chosen to take part in such a real situation and how much they learnt with it.
The Achill Island experience consists of an inter-cultural and "International Business Simulation Class", which is everything but a simulation. This is for real! Every students needs to apply for a job and once they are accepted they do need to burn the midnight oil organizing a trip to Achill and making sure that all the guests/participants involved will be getting everything they need. From hotel and flight reservations to catering and activities once on the Island, everything has to be organized by the students themselves. They work in teams, they test their capacities, they transfer their academic knowledge into the practical world. Their capacity to adjust and cope with unexpected situations is put to the test and they creativity and critical skills are thus encouraged.
What a great way to learn. I wish I was a student and could apply to something like this. iT sounds like a lot of work, but also a lot of fun.
I truly recommend you become a Absolutely Intercultural listener. You can subscribe to its feeds - which I will do too. And if you have the time, do express your opinion there too. I am sure everyone will appreciate it. ;-)
