Frances Bell :: Blog :: Wall got Spam

June 20, 2007

Looks like Emerge has been picked up by Spammers, see George's wall.

I am keen to hear about technical solutions to this, as my own project is using elgg too.

  1. that was nasty. Hope it doesn't come back. Has a discussion with Joe about it. Don't immediately know what the solution is, but we are looking at several angles.

  2. I also got a lot of spam n my elgg wall.

I used to get an email notifying me about a new comment and most times it was spam.

I always deleted those spam messages. I was being very patient, but last week I just had enough of it when I  got two spam messages in a row.

I decided to change the settings. Now only registered users can contribute to it.

Not the perfect solution, but it was the best I could think of.

  3. Hi guys,

It seems the comment wall spam has hit us now. I'm not really sure what to do about it. Setting the comment wall to logged-in users only does not help.

We tried installing the captcha plugin, but this only works for the blog comments. We also tried the Akismet plugin, but this does not seem to do anything!

    Can you give any help?

    Cheers

    Wolfgang
