George Roberts :: Blog :: Hello. Are you reading? Here?

February 15, 2009

What is the aim for this site as we near the end of the U&I funding period? There has been some concern about continuing the Emerge site in some form, but I really do wonder how many people actually read the posts on these pages at this address. And, comment? Here? And, is that at all important? The three posts below this are all stubs (two duplicates) which require clicking away to read. Is the real action somewhere else? Nothing wrong with that. But it does beg the question about the function of this site. Perhaps the social directory function is useful. Like other filtered selections this site is, in part, a network-filtered selection of items. Is it a useful selection? I find it so, but I also know there is a range of opinions. What's yours?

  1. Well I always read this page (despite all the syndciated stuff that I sometimes fail to see the relevance of). As I said at the York event, I hope that some new cooperative might takeover this Emerge blog and build on its sucess

  2. i check in here most days - and find stuff (whether posted originally here or syndicated) that I wouldn't find elsewhere.

The most valuable stuff for me is from projects and I am really interested to know how these go on after the official end. Many I know are only ending one chapter and work will be continuing in other projects or through embedded activity in institutions. I'd like to see this site continue to bring together that work - as well as to keep in touch with what community members are up to.

  3. Well, we don't go to the same Cafe everyday. But is nice to go to a place where we know people/faces (at least the barman)

"which require clicking away to read. Is the real action somewhere else?" hub of information - a node in the network.

  4. I read you!

And I wnat to keep reading people's ideas. And hopefully blog more, once my Workshop moderation session is over! I am especially fond of the blog posts that are directly posted here and don't arrive via feeds, because it shows people's engagement and effort to keep Emerge at the surface!

We need to keep going! And I already miss the Emerge official get together! .... "Saudade" as we say in portuguese

  5. Not had much to do with Emerge for a while but the site feed goes into my Netvibes page and I check it most days to find out what people are up to.
