Janet Finlay :: Blog :: Second Life...

January 27, 2008

Had some fun the other night exploring the Emerge Second Life area: a really nice space, if a little lonely there on a Friday night! (OK - I am sad - but I had to miss the Second Life sessions in York as I was otherwise committed and my wireless wasn't playing ball so I wanted to see what I had been missing!).  I was amazed at the gallery of Emerge members on the second floor - great visualisation of people in the Community - and are there really that many of us??

Would really like the chance to meet up with some "old hands" there at some convenient time. I am still struggling to walk in a straight line and avoid banging my head on the ceiling when flying about - it would be good to be taken through some of the stuff I am sure I have missed. Maybe we could have a regular SL Emerge "get together"?

(I am Aeron Moomintoog in there by the way - don't ask!)

  1. Don't you worry Janet. WIth that long road I am sure you will learn how to fly in no time.

...although roads are more for driving, but anyway! CoolCool

This is really short notice, but I am going to SL now. I will be in Edunation III. My SL name is KAyla Helgerud.

I am the afro-american purple-haired avatar! Smile I am trying to develop a kind of a hippie look, but  still haven't figured out how to wear flowers in my hair though! Anyone willing to help a  hippie avatar??Tongue outTongue out

  3. Hi Janet,

One of the things that the Habitat project plans to look at is the issue of inducting 'Noobs' into Second Life. There are now a variety of approaches being developed for the 'orientation' of new users, and we will be reviewing these and probably developing our own version in preparation for our first pilot with students in May. I am planning to do a couple of pre-pilot induction sessions in a few weeks time using Leeds Met staff as guinea pigs, so it would be great if you could pop along.

  4. Definitely - and I am sure I can persuade the rest of the new TEL Team at Leeds Met to join in too. Keep me posted.

I plan to come along to the exhibition launch on 4th Feb as well!
