Mark van Harmelen :: Blog :: Web 2.0 in Learning and Teaching in HE - Virtual Conference

April 20, 2007

At the request of the JISC Tom Franklin and I are performing a study on the use of Web 2.0 for Content Sharing in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. This will address

  • Issues arising from the use of Web2.0 technologies by students and teachers to share educational content.
  • How these technologies can inter-relate with universities' institutional systems and policies to support effective practice.

As part of this study we we are running a virtual conference which is likely to be of interest to many of the Emerge Community. The conference will explore many of the issues involved in the use of Web 2.0 for learning and teaching. Registration for the conference is now open, and we would like to invite members of the community to register for the series (a link to the registration page appears below).

The conference will consist of one webinar per day during the week of Monday 30 April to Friday 4 May, 12.30-1.30 UK time. Each webinar will start with two ten-minute seminar presentations from leaders in the field of the webinar topic, followed by questions to and answers from the presenters. Online forums will be available for related discussion before, during and after the webinar. Video transcripts of the webinars will also be made available.

Webinar topics

  • Monday: Current Practice in the use of Web 2.0 for Content Sharing in Learning and Teaching
  • Tuesday: Issues around Web 2.0 based Content Sharing
  • Wednesday: Web 2.0 and Teaching and Learning
  • Thursday: Policy Issues Relating to the use of Web 2.0 for Content Sharing in Learning and Teaching
  • Friday: Summary of the Week's Discussion and Conclusions

Short briefing papers have been prepared to help focus the conference discussion. These highlight some of the issues and raise a number of questions, and we hope that you will find it useful to read them before the conference. The briefing papers are:

  1. Looking forward to the conference discussions. I do find the term "webinar" difficult to say with a straight face, though. Briefng papers look interesting. Glad to see you here
