Melissa Highton :: Blog :: what does senior mean?

February 29, 2008

I  am concerned to see job adverts going out on lists which have titles like 'senior e-learning consultant' with salary bands like £25,134 - £32,796 a year.

How will there ever be career path and progression for learning technologists  and e-learning specialists in HE if these words are used without some link to the pay scales of senior lecturers?

 Am I alone in this?

  1. I managed a project that looked at career pathways in learning technology, having just looked up the web reference I surprised see it is now over 7 years old http://www.jisc.ac.uk/whatwedo/programmes/programme_jos/project_career.aspx. We worked with some trade unions who were interested in this emerging role.

Maybe it is time for a follow-up review in this area. Do you have contact with the Heads of e-Leaning Forum, this maybe something that they could look in to with ALT.
