Miles Metcalfe :: Blog :: Miles Metcalfe: Introduction

April 17, 2007

I'm Miles Metcalfe. I work at Ravensbourne College, and live in South London. I'm head of IT research and development at Ravensbourne. Which means I get to think about the future, and try to convince other people to make it happen.

I do a lot of stuff in front of a computer, which is mainly fun, but is occasionally like work. I'm the geeky technical one in my peer group (though I would really prefer it if the term "boffin" hadn't fallen into disuse).

I have a bad reaction to favourites, top-10 lists, and fill-in-the-blanks of the century. Like being bored, ranking thinks in order of favourites seems to me the product of a narrow, impoverished and unimaginative mind: bearable in children, irritating in students, and just plain depressing in "adults". Meh. I'm getting into microformats, which I think are super-applicable to PLEs - but that's another story. Right now, I'm finding Twitter rather too interesting, and IMified a very good idea. In fact, after posting this, I'll try setting up this blog with IMified.
