Naomi Korn :: Blog :: Web2.0 and IP

Next generation technologies are widespread in their application, deployment, development and adapation across HEIs and FEIs, however, there is little accessible guidance and acceptable standards relating to IP, licensing and rights management. This creates real risks and concerns for projects. In response to this, a couple of months ago, we kicked off our new JISC funded project Web2Rights www.web2rights.org.uk

Our project is a direct response for the need to build IP related resources, training and support for projects in their engagement with next generation technologies and we will be concentrating on building a tool kit that can be applied and support projects funded under JISC's Users and Innovation Strand, but also has the potential to be rolled out for greater applicability. We will also producing a mini survey on the use of open content licences, particulalrly Creative Commons, within this environment

In terms of project progress so far, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes. To help us scope out requirements for our work, we have produced an information gathering survey which can be found at: http://www.ssb.plymouth.ac.uk/surveys/WEb2Rights/ . This is an important aspect to our work, because it will provide us with information about the types of live rights issues that projects are encountering to enable us to then create suitable resources.

We are inviting any project/individual who is interacting with next generation technologies to complete our information gathering survey (it shouldn’t take more than about 5-10 minutes) so that we can create helpful IP support materials which are most needed.

We also have one place left on our Web2.0 and IP Focus Group meeting in London on 11th December 2007. You can contact me at naomi@naomikorn.com if you are interested in attending or have any questions about our project.

Please let us know if you have any thought or comments about our work and we look forward to engaging with you
