Josie Fraser :: Blog :: Joining instructions for the online activity days

June 02, 2007

Hello to everyone in the JISC Users and Innovation Community of Practice and the Emerge Project. If you haven’t done so already, you can register for the activity days at

Registration is not required, but it does help us to know who is coming. If you have not registered, do not worry, you can still join in the activities.

We have set up a Moodle site to host the Online activity days here:

We are striving towards single sign on (SSO) between the Emerge Elgg community site and the Moodle site, but that was not possible in the time. So, what we have done is upload your Emerge Elgg credentials (username, password) into the Moodle database. You will need to
•    log in
•    and then "enrol" on the course called "Online activity days - 5, 6, 7 June 2007".

When you have enrolled please drop by the “Arrivals Lounge”. There you will find orientation activities and help forums.

You will find complete instructions on the Moodle site to help you join in all the sessions.

Many of the sessions will be taking place using Elluminate, a web conferencing environment. If you haven't used Elluminate previously, you will need to download and install the platform software and test your system. You can find the download, and all of the information you'll need to set up Elluminate, here:

On the Moodle site you will find an Elluminate help forum in the “Arrivals Lounge” (session 1) with complete instructions. At least ten minutes before the session you want to join starts, please click on the link in the Moodle site and:
•    Start Elluminate Live
•    Accept any security certificate offered.
•    Enter your full name when prompted to login so everyone can see who you are, and
•    Click the login button.

Some sessions are being run in SecondLife, and if you've never been in this environment before it's important that you set up your account and your avatar in advance. Go to:

Looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday! We will be kicking off with a showcase overview of the whole community - each team has been asked to contribute a presentation slide and many will have a team member available for questions during the session.

Best regards

Josie Fraser
