Following a few conversations that took place over the online activity days, Tony Linde (who heads up the AstroGrid Team) kindly agreed to host our first barn raising session, which will take place on Tuesday 26th June in Leicester.

'Barn raising' refers to a community social get together organised with a specific task in mind, which obviously doesn't have to be barn-focused.

I'm using the evaluation list provided by George for community generated activity to explain what it is we're planning on doing:

What you want to do

Run a barn raising day during which members of the Emerge community will meet up in order to look at navigation and organisational issues and produce a site map for the Emerge site.

Is it a community/cluster group activity or an individual activity

This event is open to all members of the Emerge community and may even provide a great case study for some of them - for example if they're interested in problem spaces, problem based learning, group processes and community activity.

What are the aims of the activity

To have a fun day working with each other to define issues around navigation and design and implement a crowd sourced solution.

What are the expected outcomes

Documentation of the problem solving process and approach (it would be great if a member of the community who isn't able to attend would volunteer to do a brief evaluation afterwards). A new site map for the Emerge site. Navigation issues taken forward.

How will you inform the Emerge community of your activity

We will be documenting the process and blogging about it. We will also be asking for feedback on the results! 

How can the Emerge Team help you with your activity

Joe Rosa, who is now leads for the project on technical development, will doubtless be called upon to support changes. All of the Emerge Team are welcome to participate.
