I'm delighted to be able to report back on our last Users & Development group meeting, generously hosted by Salford. You can find the full list of action points over at the U&D file store, which should give those of you not able to attend a flavor of the discussion. It was an intense meeting, with a lot of debate about how best to continue supporting the Emerge community.

Headline actions include:

The Emerge Platform

  • Emerge Smile Elgg
The group gave a thumbs up to the choice of Elgg for the project platform, and after a lot of discussion,  were happy to continue with the original plan for platform development - small scale alterations to best support and reflect the community and liaison with the wider Elgg development community.
  • Communities/groups at Emerge
Emerge is pretty much an ongoing conversation about the usefulness of the word 'community', and this conversation is confused further by the groups function in Elgg also being called communities. Communities/groups is set to become an important focus for the Emerge project, in terms of both the successful bids and the opportunity we have to house and support international level, cutting edge research. In terms of the platform this is going to call for greater functionality for community profiles and areas. Luckily for us, the Curverider team seem to have been thinking along the same lines, enabling us to benefit from the forthcoming release.
  • File store
The other area the group wanted to prioritise was enhancement of the Elgg file store space.  Additionally, you'll be seeing changes to the look of the site as a whole, and the integration of Google search.

Additional services

  • Remote conference facilities

ALT have generously offered to provide Emerge members with access to their 25 seat Elluminate licence. Detail coming soon but we are hopeful that this will enhance your remote meetings and group planning.

  • Wiki & repository space
We will be refurbishing and reorganising the available wiki space. We'll also be exploring how best to support successful bid teams  need for project repository space - for code, research and documentation.
