Roddy MacLeod :: Blog :: ticTOCs progress

June 13, 2007

In a previous post, I mentioned the ticTOCs project, which is funded under the JISC U&I Programme.  The project is making some progress, and I invite you over to the ticTOCs News blog for details.

The aim of the ticTOCs project is to develop a service which will transform journal current awareness by making it easy for academics and researchers to find, display, store, combine and reuse tables of contents from multiple publishers in a personisable web based environment.

What happens if journals and therefore ToCs disappear?

  2. Sorry I missed this comment.  Actually, this is a good question. If a journal ceases, then there won't be any new content, therefore the TOC won't be updated.  In, say, Bloglines, the same sort of thing can happen with a blog (or TOC) feed which ceases, and they can clutter up the interface.  It would be relatively easy to remove such titles from the ticTOCs directory, but there would also need to be some way to alert those who had subscribed.  There could also be instances where a journal/feed was dormant for some time, but might still contain content inthe future.  One for the thinking cap.
