I have to say that I've found the online event much more useful than I thought it would be. The sessions have been interesting and well led and the format works well. The chat box beside the slideshow has enabled comments and threads to develop from what the speaker was saying. I can imagine that'd be distracting if the speaker tried to read them all but with a moderator tracking them and feeding them back to the speaker at breaks or at the end, it worked ok. Speaking of breaks - a few more would be welcome for nature-calls or, more important, coffee refills; and a longer lunch would help as well: finish at 12, start at 2 perhaps.
The hardest part for me was not being able to read email at the same time! This might sound cheeky but during RL presentations I can keep an eye on the slides and listen to the speaker while taking notes on my laptop and occasionally checking email and responding to urgent messages. This is difficult with the slides on the same laptop (at least a 1024x800 screen one). It'd be useful if the tools used for the conf were detachable so I could have the slides off to one side and the chat somewhere else. That said, I thought elluminate was an excellent and performant tool.
Well done to everyone involved in organising this.
