Ian Truelove :: Blog :: Ian Truelove: Introduction

April 17, 2007

Hi. My name is Ian Truelove, and I am a Senior Lecturer based in the School of Contemporary Art & Graphic Design at Leeds Metropolitan University. My name is also Cubist Scarborough, and I’m based at LeedsMet island (follow the link from hbuilding.org).

What is your role in the Emerge team you belong to?
The team that I belong to is exploring social software and learning through the nurturing of tacit knowledge in Second Life. This is very much a practice-led project at the moment, and I will be posting some of our initial developments here soon. I am leading the project, taking primary responsibility for communicating the team’s activities. My fellow team member, Graham Hibbert, is leading the serious developments in Second Life (he's two years old, I'm only 9 months old), and Bob Rotheram is the primary contact for all of the Leeds Met projects.

What is your current favourite web based application or site?
I’d say Second Life, but that’s not strictly web-based, so I’ll go for Sleeds.org. This is a Second Life e-portfolio type thing, based of the bespoke system we use on the BA(Hons) Graphic Arts & Design and BA(Hons) Contemporary Art Practice courses at Leeds Met. It was built from scratch using PHP & mySQL by Graham Hibbert, and we are using it to post up our exploits in Second Life.
