HE sector in meeting the individual needs of an increasingly diverse range of
learners - to promote active engagement, to enhance learning and to enrich the learning environment and support available.

Through the establishment of this team we wish to understand how learners' perceptions of technology and learning change through the introduction of new technologies and environments, specifically audio, to support interactive and participative learning.

The increasing adoption of web 2.0 technologies and social software eg MySpace, Flikr, YouTube allied with pervasive technologies such as mobile phones, wikis and blogs, recognise and support the need for personalisation of learning environments, tools and learning communities. As noted in the recent JISC Innovative e-Learning Conference this is producing an increasingly complex "interplay between private and institutionally-sanctioned
technologies, generic and subject specific ones, personal and social environments"(JISC, 2006). We need to understand the impact of the increasing use of audio on this interplay of technologies and their use and transferability between personal, social and learning contexts.]]></bio:olb>
