An interesting posting by Derek Morrison in his Pathfinder blog with relevance to our own project. Worth a read.

  1. Thats an interesting post and there are a host of applications for this kind of technology. I think the development model mentioned above with software etc can be bettered though. How about you (the tutor) pick up the phone and record a message. When you hang up the file (which can be downloaded etc) is automatically posted to a web site. At the same time an alert is automatically sent to everyone involved (by email, SMS or they are called on their phone).

Nobody needs a computer to construct audio and the students can have it anyway they wish. Now thats what I would term easy. Tellefoni.com offer all that and more if you're interested.

We're in the process of setting up trials in China for the autumn for a teaching English courses out there. They loved it because its so quick and so scalable. Its what you can call grandma-friendly technology - anyone can make a phone call.

  2. I've had a look at the Tellefoni website, Nick and i can see how this technology has a lot of exciting uses for education. Our project is interested in the use of audio within emerging technologies to support reflection, feedback and collaborative learning. At the moment we are looking at using audio embedded within wikis and Social Networking sites such as Ning. One area that would be of concern is the confidentiality and security issues of using the Tellefoni technology. Clearly, if we have teachers providing personal feedback to students on their work, then it needs to be confidential. How secure is this technology?

Anyway, I'd be interested in finding out more. Not sure what your role in Tellefoni is?
