David White :: Blog :: Fashon Show Freakery

April 24, 2008

OK, so a fashion show in Second Life isn't everyones idea of fun. Think of a hybrid of a neon eighties disco movie montage sequence, a baroque fancy dress party and Tron and you will be getting close to the effect. The sheer range of cgi textiles was enough to make the make the mind boggle. Even so, being part of this surreal mis-en-scene I did feel like I was spending time in the same place as a lot of people I'd be happy to spend time with in real life (co-presence if you want to be academic about it). The fun and friendly atmosphere was definitely not virtual and wasn't killed even when Sade/James Blunt was played over the speakers... I'm not sure what the implications are in grown-up project terms but a big thanks to all who helped run the event. I didn't spill my drink once* :-)

  1. Sid Vicious and Hot Chocolate. The Bee Gees and the Undertones. I've finally found a DJ with the same taste in music as me (well, apart from the James Blunt track).

Cubist enjoyed himself enormously. He's leaving it up to Ian to make sense of it for the grown-up project.

  2. I am definetly DJing next time :) I did enjoy SL dancing to Sid Vicious  in an  huge ball gown very much though. Had a great night - some pictures from me in the Emerge pool on Flickr. See you down the Emerge disco next month.

  3. Ahhh it was a great night watching everyone in their frocks, and that was just the male avatars. And please can someone tell why the mention of Jame Blunt sounds like a criminal offence ;)

  5. The reason you don't understand why the words 'James Blunt' signal a henious crime is the reason I'm DJing next time.

  6. Ah sorry I missed it. Had planned to come along but in the end my "First Life" got in the way!

  7. Probably the most learning I have done in one evening for a long time - but as David? said earlier it was mostly about how to do things in SL. But got me thinking...

Great fun and thanks to all those who organised it.

So how does it relate to benefits realisation again?
